Teacher’s Overview: Shopping Basics

Level: Basic (very beginners with little or no English) 

Target Language:

• Shopping vocabulary: apple, banana, bread, milk, egg, cheese, tomato, chicken, rice, water, supermarket, money (dollar)

• Simple sentences: This is [item]. / I like [item]. / I want [item].

• Questions & answers: How much is it? / It’s [number] dollar(s). 

Skills Focus: Listening, repeating, pointing, naming items, simple speaking, visual recognition of food & shopping words.

Lesson Aims:

Introduce and practice 12 everyday shopping items through big pictures, pointing, repetition, and easy games so students can name them and use them in basic sentences (e.g., “This is an apple”, “I want milk”, “How much is it?”).
