Possessive Adjectives

Teacher Overview

A1 Possessive Adjectives

my – your – his – her – our – their

This is a very practical and essential lesson for A1 students. Learners practise using possessive adjectives correctly when talking about personal belongings, family members, and everyday objects. The lesson is clear, well-structured, and highly visual, helping students build confidence in making accurate basic sentences.

Why teachers love this lesson:

It’s straightforward and very useful in almost every beginner class. The material moves smoothly from grammar presentation to controlled practice and then to meaningful speaking. Non-native English teachers especially appreciate the clear chart and step-by-step structure.

Teaching Tips:

  • Clearly show the difference between subject pronouns (I, you, he, she…) and possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her…).
  • Always model the language first and have students repeat chorally.
  • Encourage students to speak about real things (their own bag, phone, family, etc.) — this makes the lesson much more meaningful.
  • Keep corrections gentle — this is one of the most commonly misused grammar points by beginners.
  • Use lots of pointing and real classroom objects during the warm-up and speaking activities.
