When the Drawing Doesn’t Matter

I’ve taught in different countries over the years, and one thing always stands out — students are far more generous than we give them credit for.

This masterpiece behind me? That’s my attempt at drawing a person. In Peru, there were a few smiles, a bit of whispering, and some very polite sideways glances… but no insults. No dramatic reactions. Just students gracious enough to let the lesson continue without highlighting my artistic limitations.

Teaching across cultures teaches you more than methodology ever could. Patience. Respect. Humility. And the reminder that connection matters more than perfection.

If you’ve got a classroom moment from your part of the world, feel free to send it through with a short note. I enjoy seeing where — and how — others are teaching.
